Vehicle theft has been a growing problem over the years. In 2013, it was reported that 699,594 cars were stolen & 1,652,733 stolen vehicle property claims. $4.1 billion of loss due to motor vehicle theft was reported as well. Be aware that July and August are the most common months for vehicle theft. Count to 44 seconds, now while you were counting a stolen vehicle claim was just made somewhere in the country. As this problem is growing we need to keep in mind that there are ways to prevent this. Consider these simple tips to keeping your vehicle and its property secure:
.) Park in a busy, well-lit area.
.) Never leave valuables such as electronics in plain sight in your car. If your vehicle has a large cargo area people can see into, consider getting a cover.
.) Close and lock all doors and windows when away from the vehicle.
.) Install a vehicle alarm if your car doesn't come equipped with one from the manufacturer.
.) Never leave your vehicle running, even if it's unattended for only a few minutes.
.) Don't hide a second set of keys in your vehicle.
